blind_author has an awesome hdm au wip called "the republic of heaven" - link is to the most recent part, with previous parts linked at the top. I love this story, sherlock is the son of a witch, john was friends with a panserbjørne in afghanistan and they both have...unusual daemons.

the one where john's daemon is a honey badger. Theory and Practice by Red: Sherlock had only ever met one other person with a ratel for a daemon, and she was responsible for the murder of fifteen defrocked priests in New France.
