had a good day today, despite having time related anxieties(eg food taking too long WE HAVE TO GET TO THE CINEMA ON TIME WHAT IF THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY TIME THEY START AT THE ADVERTISED TIME PS I NEED TO PEE)

Met Childhood Friend and her work friend D at the MCA steps to get the free ferry over to Cockatoo island to see the Biennale installation artworks - some really interesting works! I really liked the exploding car piece

and there was an AMAZING video piece with huge screens showing 3 different scenes or 'parts' in the round with classical music playing. AES+F :The Feast of Trimalchio.

Creepiest was the G8 "summit" piece which was horribly lifelike wax figures dead communist leaders in glass coffins, including a BREATHING wax version of Fidal Castro who is in a hospital bed, not in a glass box - seriously, you walk up to him and then you hear this noise and you lean closer and you HEAR HIM BREATHING and then you notice that HIS BEARD IS MOVING and HIS CHEST IS MOVING UP AND DOWN. still! it could have been a real person laying there instead of fakery, but still CREEPY AS FUCK. and the piano slave which will freak you the fuck out when the piano is found guilty and is dropped from the gallows.

and then, ferry back to walsh bay(as D was feeling seasick) and a walk to pyrmont and food at Grill'd, which was delicious, but took AGES and I was watching the clock and watching the clock and getting a little worried that we would be late to the IMAX. so we ate, and powerwalked through the HUGE crowds at darling harbour(seriously, today was a gorgeous day and the Boat Show was on - we saw the stupid jess 'ella' pink boat from the top of the bridge) and got there to join the line to enter(assigned seating and there is still a line!) - managed to pee and then go in to get our seats, packed cinema, and NOTE TO SELF: row H is okay, but don't get anything further forward than that.

I think I picked up more on the 2nd go through, noticed more things and got more out of it. I could still happily watch it 4 more times! I have come to my personal inception conclusion which is that Cobb is asleep the whole time, Mal was right and they were still in a dream level, when Cobb sees Mal on the ledge the hotel room she is in is IDENTICAL to the room Cobb is in, but the room Cobb is in is in disorder and Mal's is not. She has her house in order. I think she woke up(or at least kicked herself up another level - the logic of when you are so far under that you don't wake up when killed vs when you don't is confusing, but all dream logic is confusing I guess?)

I also noticed the musical kicks more - it is really obvious when you know to listen for it - when someone is given the cue in the level above, they don't hear the music, they hear the slowed down DUN DUN DUN - it is really well done and I feel like an idiot for not noticing it first go through, it plays the normal song a little and then goes DUN DUN DUN which makes sense since that time passes slower in lower levels so would the sound of the kick. Of course that doesn't explain why they don't hear anything from the level above APART from the kick song...

and I would really have appreciated it if we had seen a host/shared dreamers projection apart from Mal - we are told that the architect designs the landscape of the dream and the dreamer fills it with their subconscious projections

ariadne's dream in the landscape leo built(she explodes stuff in the landscape when she realises it is a dream - they awake via timer not via being killed out)
leo's the dreamer in the world ariadne built(where she messes with the mirrors and we learn that projections will take note of the dreamer and attack them - which we saw in Saito's dream in the beginning I guess, they attached nash, or were they nash's projections?)
ariadne's the dreamer in the landscape arthur builds(the penrose stairs)

training montage - we see ariadne teaching yusef and arthur their dream levels and we see them casing the city and hotel levels(WHY NO EAMES HATERS?)

I wish we had some clarification on what happens in shared dreams in regards to the projections of the extractors(mal being the exception) - on all three levels of the dream heist they are fighting Fishers subconscious who realises they are foreign invaders, but are the team sharing the dream fighting their team members subconscious at the same time?

or I am overthinking this whole thing? PROBABLY!

I am going to eat dinner and read some more arthur/eames. arthur/eames mmmmm

PS - the ladies next to me were impressed with arthur and eames, perhaps I was sitting next to SECRET SLASHERS? and childhood friend said that she liked the english one :)

I always love when I'm not the only one making stupid overly-in-depth theories. I absolutely need things to fit together properly to enjoy it.

I've only seen it once, so I haven't caught as much as you, but my biggest confusion was why they were only in anti-grav one level down when the van took a dive. I assumed it was because each level down, they were in a different dreamer. Is that right? And each level down they compound the dream so on the second level, there are two dreamers, on level 3 there are 3, etc. I'm not sure why Mal was able to break through into other people's dreams when other people's projections couldn't, but maybe that's because she was so strong.
