as my voice is gone(gone!). okay, yes I can talk really hoarsely, practically a whisper, but that's about it.

Today I went to work, then went to the doctor(laryngitis, she says. take disprin and gargle it and it should be gone in a week, she says. the back of your throat looks horrible, she says). At no point was I offered antibiotics, but if I don't have my voice back by wed, I'm damn well asking for them. And then I went back to work, finished my most important Monday stuff, and came home.

And so I get to spend the rest of today and tomorrow(public holiday!) not-talking. And you all know how much I love talking. So that's gonna suck. At least I have lots of books to read.

Sorry to hear your voice is even more gone (gone!) than it was on the weekend.

How're you finding DLD?

I was going to say something about wishing I had even the squeaky saturday voice back, but man, I just want to talk normal!

I wanted to talk to you about it - I finished it this afternoon, have you finished it yet?

I haven't! I'm still at the same place I was on Saturday, about two-thirds through.

You could say that I want to stay out of the kill zone, and the book is a sniper that wants to RIP ME APART with its DULL AND REPETITIVE PROSE. I'm sure JT would approve of my evasive action.

Does it improve?

Hmmm...kinda? Thankfully, the word clusterfuck disapears after about the 5th repitition, and the Kill Zone-ness of it fades after a bit(or, I was more happy reading the Lucy bits, which are at most times quite charming. She had me at the reference to Kingdom Come Wonder Woman)

I don't want to be negative, as it's more action-packed I suppose than some of jc's other stuff, and the plot(mostly) moves along quite fast, but it feels like she wrote a story, chopped half of it out and glued it to a manly book that should have the words 'deep' 'zero' or 'station' in the title.

I would have liked JT so much more if all of his ultra-manly green beret lingo and terminology had been used more ironically, that he wasn't taking it seriously. 'cause for the most part it comes across ridiculous.

Not that I'm saying you shouldn't finish reading it! You should!

That's so true. I kept wanting JT to have more of a sense of humour about it all, but he's all stoic stoic stoic hey let's have some sex! I'm not really buying him as a character, and I'm not particularly liking him, either. Or even disliking him. He just... is, which is really the problem.

Lucy, as you say, is far more likable, though she's hampered by the somewhat stupid plot.

I do intend to finish it. :)
