meelieHad a great time at the Gold Coast!
Trip was slightly marred by the fact that my travel agency messed up and the hotel we were staying at wasn't in the area serviced by the shuttle they'd arranged so looooong bus trips were involved. Reamed out the travel guy over the phone when we (finally) got there. Felt anxious about being demanding over the phone. I'm usually on the receiving end of that. But I put on my pissy/demanding/not very pleased voice and it seemed to go okay.
First night I had a very bad headache and kinda crashed, we went to MovieWorld on the Saturday and I was disappointed. It was pretty lame and quite small with not that much stuff. I went on most of the rides and saw a few of the shows and that was it! It was like Universal Studios hemophiliac step cousin with delusions of grandeur. Rather sad really.
Seaworld on the other hand, was great! We had so much fun wondering around looking at all the marine life. We hit the aquarium first which, while not huge, had a great variety. A favourite was the tropical fish which F. said looked just like a picasso and when we looked at what it was called turned out to be a hawaiian picasso triggerfish! Very neat. Polar Bears were a big hit with F. who bought a stuffed bear which she dubbed Ping Ping to add to her growing collection of stuffed animals to torment her boyfriend. I liked the Seal show. Took many photos at Seaworld. Bought pens for people at work and got myself a hat and a mug. Went to a thai place for dinner, YUM. Went back to the hotel and sat in the spa for a while. We checked out the sauna but F. and alasen made a run for it when they saw the huge huntsman spider on the door. Wusses. Went and saw "Bend it Like Beckham" which we all enjoyed even though we thought the ending was a bit unlikely. Plus the irish guy was cute!
Got up early with F. on the last day, alasen and I are not morning people while F. definitely is, so it was a grand sacrifice on my part :) Went swimming and it was fantastic! Stayed between the flags and didn't drown. Always good. F. didn't go out too far as she was a bit put off by the big crashing surf but I had a blast! Back to where we were staying for a quick shower and to pack and check out. Left our bags at reception and had breakfast at "Pancakes In Paradise". Mmmmmm. Pancakes. I love pancakes. Couldn't finish them though. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach when it comes to pancakes. Then we had a final wander around doing some last minute shopping. alasen and I attacked the second hand bookstores and I bought way too many books but I couldn't resist. Also bought some incense and a top for work. Started to pour down rain while we were making our way back to the hotel to get picked up to get home. Stopped a few minutes later of course. Got to the airport in plenty of time and then the flight was delayed. Got home 8pm-ish after dropping al off, unpacked, had something to eat and watched a bit of '24'. I'd bought these really nice matching square green stained glasses on the first day and they looked really nice last night with tea light candles in them.
Checked my email late last night, read some fic, and went to sleep. At work now and wishing I was still on holiday. Sigh!
