I am avoiding doing, thinking and writing about a number of things so here is a post about my recent explorations of capsule coffee

Beginning of December 2018, I bought myself a DéLonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini - I have been a french press gal for 10 years but lately haven't had the time to wait for the brew - there was a good cash back on the mini (and i didn't need a frother since i am a long black and cold milk type) so bought it at JB hifi - it came with a sample box that i worked my way through with very average results
(I ended up having to take the machine back for exchange about a month in - randomly it stopped powering up but the replacement is going strong)

Because I like a long black with cold milk I found the nespresso capsules on the weak/watery side when done in a long black style - the only ones that really made an impression were the intense flavours (Kazaar and Dharkan), the lungo (Envivo was the nicest) and the Master Origins (India and Colombia)

other capsules i have tried:

Di Lorenzo:
my coffee shop near my work sells what i call 'stripey cup' coffee - they sell a box of 10 capsules for $10, which is on the pricey side, but was a nice strong flavour

Vittoria:
the good selling point on the vittoria is that the capsules are packed in australia and it sounds wanky, but they have a 'fresher' flavour than the nespresso. 10 per pack, at coles, woolies etc

I have tried the mountain grown (usually $4.50) and the espresso ($7 a pack, hardly ever on sale) - the espresso is the clear winner, its great and i am waiting for it to be back on sale to buy more

Republica:
the big selling point on republica is that they are biodegradable - according to their site, their pods have same breakdown time as an orange peel approx 730 days (but also the capsules come in a sealed foil bag - nothing about if that breaks down...)

I've tried the Roma ($7 i think, huh says $5 everyday at coles, but pretty sure was more in my local store) and yes good - really like the intensity on this.

In conclusion, I don't know if i would buy nespresso capsules ongoing - they are a hassle to buy and hit and miss with optimising water and intensity.

Di Lorenzo was good but too $$

My winners were Vittoria Espresso and Republica Roma on flavour - but would wait to buy on sale (especially since i have some less favoured capsules to get through before i buy any new ones)

I have vague ideas of getting some re-usable pods in the future, will have to finish doing my research on that, but at the moment I am happy to have 2 or 3 pods per weekend vs getting 2 or 3 non-recyclable coffee cups (while i take my glass keep cup to work every week day, i never ever remember it if i get a coffee on the go on the weekend)

sorry if you want actual content, but i need somewhere to put this hard boiled egg combo recipe, how can so many people have different ideas about hard boiling eggs? I tried the whole leave in the fridge in the shell overnight and it SUCKED, trying the below, LETS SEE HOW IT GOES

MAKE ICECUBES! i never have ice cubes??
2 room temp (or maybe straight from fridge!) (possibly better if older!) eggs!
put in saucepan, add tap water till cover by about 1.5cm/1inch-ish
bring to boil! (with lid on)
once boiling, reduce heat to med/low and boil for 6min (timing still to be tested!)
(put on timer!)
take off heat
tap with a spoon or roll them on the countertop to crack the shells before you shock the eggs in cold water. (This will loosen the membrane and make them easier to peel)
transfer to bowl with ice cubes and water
Peel the eggs as soon as they're cool. Start at the broad end, and hold the egg under running water to loosen any bits of stubborn shell clinging to the sides.

hey meelie maybe you should write stuff down so you remember what you think about different games?? GOOD IDEA

( okay! yesterday played 'The Alchemists' )
Basically like a really intense Cluedo? box said 2hrs to play, but I think since it was our first go it took 4.5hrs?

Would play again but would probably make myself some formula cheat pieces to work out what cancels out what etc as I had trouble with that part.

we then played a round of Bohnanza which I must admit I came out of gate hard, but it was 10pm meelie playing at that point oh no.

and then a game of codenames: pictures - I think I am more a fan of the word one? I find the image one way more subjective and really depends more on how the other player on your team thinks. Happy to play either but would like to try word one again to see if I really do prefer it.

lazy day today! need to do some laundry and currently catching up on s29 amazing race

just saw that ethrosdemon has passed away.

I've had her on my friendslist for years and years - I was never close to her, but I, a known lurker and lack of commenter, posted comments on many of her fic and enjoyed them a lot, and discussed BSG theories as well, back in The Day.

I hope she is remembered however she would have wanted.

The Big Short

15min into the big short, and it is worse than the book so far, which I thought would be tough - the Margot Robbie scene :/

Also I think they just replaced a dead kid with an adult dead brother
And the frantic camera style is giving me a headache...and the Ryan Gosling to camera talking, ugh.

I really like Moneyball the book and thought the movie was terrible, maybe just time for another re-read of Moneyball

Really strange to me, since I love stuff about financial collapse and could care less about baseball, but the passion for stats and the feeling for the subject matter really comes through in Moneyball
The big short just feels like contempt for the system, the people and even the people who 'best' the system while presented as outsider anti heroes they are not sympathetic at all

As per my vague preamble before my vid show, the theme for Saturday was retrospective with an emphasis on the transition of vidding around 2002-2004

I'm.....from Earth

Last night I went with alasen to Thrilling Adventure Hour at the Enmore theatre as part of Sydney Comedy Festival and it was GREAT!

I had such a great time, the only thing i would change is that the smoke machine they were running disagreed with me and I ended up coughing through a lot of the show :(

They performed Sparks Nevada "Bonus Onus", Buccatino Business, Moonshine Holler, Beyond Belief (I forget the title, something about bed and breakfasts), 2 Patriot cigarettes ads (one with a businessman getting threatened by his lungs to buy Patriot brand and the other with Marc Evan Jackson as a nerd and Mark Gagliardi as a bully) and closed with the workjuice closing theme.

Molly Quinn was adorable as "Danielle Steele" a robot outlaw looking to join a gang. Marc Evan Jackson continues to be my favourite; i could listen to him talk all day. Mark Gagliardi used a lot of physical comedy in his performance, especially as the Egg Baron in the Moonshine Holler, and as Croach the tracker in disguise he puffed himself up. Paul F. Tompkins is a gift.

There were a couple of sound cues that were missed and mistakes with the script but it was enjoyable watching the cast work their way out of problems.

I bought a copy of the concert dvd and 2 posters - they sold out of the beyond belief one that I wanted as I got to the front of the merch queue but I got the Australia/NZ tour poster and my second choice Beyond Belief 'EC' comic book style cover poster.

I am really glad I went and now regret that I don't live near LA so I can go to Largo for TAH shows (and for live eps of "how did this get made")

Some excellent cos-players in the crowd and getting into an enthusiastic discussion about film and tv in the (unnecessary!) line before they let us in made the wait go faster.
